Now released on patchpool: Sound Bank Alchemistry for Alchemy

One aspect of this Sound Bank focusses on the interior of known and unknown sounds, deconstructing and rebuilding their harmonic structure by resynthesizing them and then manipulating their spectrals. It also focusses on multisampled instruments and granular madness. The source material is derived from found and often processed everyday objects and field recordings but also from electronics, musical instruments and voices. You will find cinematic soundscapes, drones, otherworldly textures, rhythmical sequences, chromatic and achromatic percussion instruments, ethereal pads as well as real and unreal instruments.
All samples were especially produced for this Bank, a french horn player and a cellist were hired to produce the instrumental samples, the other instruments were played by myself. The library contains 1,31 Gigabyte of wav samples produced at 48Khz/24 Bit and 489,3 MB of resynthed sound data, the extra sample folder contains 236,1 MB of wav samples. There are 100 patches with 8 variations each in Alchemys Remix Pad. All 8 Performance Controllers as well as both x/y-pads are assigned for each patch. All the patches from this Bank are also available as Kore-files (ksds) and the Controller assignment and Remix-Pad Snapshots are available in Kore. Read/view the pdf-file with further instructions, the licence agreement and a patchlist here.
The price for this Sound Bank is 32.95 €, after your purchase you will receive the download links for the 4 RAR-files (1386 MB download size in total).

Massive Steel Cloud - 1:27 - Range: C-1 - C7 - HDI: high
Meteorites -1:31 - Root Key: C2 - Range: C0 - C6 - HDI: high
Mysterious Beauty - 1:25 - tuned - Range: C-1 - C7 - HDI: high
Phased Space (DFD mode) - 2:40 - 9 segments triggered by Keyswitches (C0-G#0) - tuned - Range: C1 - C7 - Pitchbend +/- 12 semitones - the inverted Modwheel controls LP Filter Cutoff
Surreal Female Voice Cloud - 2:19 - root key: C3 - C0-C6 - HDI: perfect
Controls:
All patches but Phased Space play in Sampler mode which enables you to control the start point of each texture with the Modwheel, so you can e.g. play a texture from the very start, hold it with the Sustain pedal and then trigger another section of the same sound simultaneously. Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones for all patches. To reduce aliasing artifacts the quality of the sampler mode is either set to high or perfect. This uses more CPU than the standard setting, especially when you transpose the samples up extremely. You can set the quality setting to standard in the Group editor.

Kontakt Library Beautiful Beds released on patchpool

Kontakt 4 - 586,1 MB unzipped - the 36 samples 70 seconds each / not looped (48Khz/24Bit/stereo) are compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - Price: 9,95 €
For this library I chromatically sampled 3 different chordal textures made made with my own patches in Absynth 5, Zebra 2, Alchemy and Reaktor's Metaphysical Function. Each texture is triggered by a keyswitch, texture 1 is a major 7/9 chord spread over 3 ocatves, texture 2 is a minor 7/9 chord and texture 3 is a sus7 chord (so it's neither major or minor as it doesn't use thirds). I sampled each texture for 70 seconds for each chromatic note, the samples are not looped. There is a customized Midi script available and you can determine the sample start point with the Modwheel.
There are 4 patches available, Beautiful Beds All chromatic combines all textures with keyswitches and there is a patch for each tonality in case you don't want to use all samples at once.
Mapping:
The original samples are mapped from C3-B3 and there are transposed samples mapped from C2-B2.
Keyswitches;
Texture 1 (major 7/9) is triggered by keyswitch C1
Texture 1 (minor 7/9) is triggered by keyswitch D1
Texture 1 (sus 7) is triggered by keyswitch E1
Controls:
The Modwheel determines the sample start point, Pitchbend is set to +/- 2 semitones for each texture
Midi Script:
There are 6 Midi Controller knobs
Knob 1 controls the Highpass FIlter Cutoff
Knob 2 controls the Highpass Resonance
Knob 3 controls the Lowpass FIlter Cutoff
Knob 4 controls the Lopwpass Resonance
Knob 5 controls the amount of the Phaser in the Send FX section
Knob 6 controls the speed of he phasing
You can get amazingly rich textures if you combine several textures that fit together tonally (or don't) and/or play them in octaves, You will hear this towards the end of the demo. Happy padding!

Kontakt patch: Car Factory Hits and Impacts released on patchpool

23,7 MB unzipped - Kontakt 4 - 5 samples (48Khz/24Bit/stereo) split up into 46 segments - compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - 1 Impulse Responses (wav) - Price: 4 €
Some years ago I visited a car factory in Dresden to make some field recordings. In this factory big limousines are assembled mainly by robots. So for this patch I used the recordings in which more percussive events take place.
5 long samples (48 Khz/wav/stereo) spilt up into 46 zones/segments - some zones are looped, others use zone envelopes for smooth fades at the end of the sample or filter envelopes. The percussive segments are distributed into 2 Groups: Kicks and Snares using various Kontakt FX like Saturation, Compression, EQing and there is a FX Pan Group that slowly pans the assigned sounds around.
The Modwheel controls the send level of all sounds routed to the Convolution module which carries a gated Reverb made with Aether Reverb.
The Pitchwheel is set to +/- 12 semitones for all sounds.
The demo was produced using a single instance of Kontakt in Logic, no post processing was applied.

Chimeland - Library for Kontakt 4 released

Chimeland - 178,5 MB unzipped - Kontakt 4 - 16 samples (48Khz/24Bit/stereo) compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - 3 Impulse Responses (wav) - Price: 9,95 €
The other day I was in my local Music Store to get some mallets I needed for sampling an upcoming Library. There I found those sweet little Handchimes and so I decided to make a Library out of it. There are 10 patches / nkis available:

Chimes accent
A long sample (1:24) of Handchimes played with single accents split up into 16 segments, some of them looped others using zone envelopes for a smooth fade out. 8 combinations of segments are available, segment 1 mapped from C1-B3, segment 2 mapped from C4-C7. Each Combo is triggered by a keyswitch located from C0-G0. Most segments are tuned if they have a distinctive pitch at the start of the sound so that you can use them chromatically in your music.
The Modwheel adds Stereo Chorus inserted post Reverb, the Pitchwheel is set to +/- 12 semitones. A medium sized IR is active in Convolution engine in the the Insert FX section.

Chimes close single accents MW smp start
A long sample (1:27) of closely miced Handchimes played softly with accents in different densities mapped over the entire keyboard. The original pitch of the sample is located at C5. The Modwheel determines the sample start position, Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones. Midi Controller CC#021 controls a slow pitch modulation. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse the sample, you can also determine the reversed sample start position with the Modwheel. A long IR is active in the convolution engine in the Insert FX section.

Chimes medium soft MW smp start
A looped sample (0:38) of Handchimes played more continuously with occasional accents mapped over the entire keyboard. The original pitch of the sample is located at C5. The Modwheel determines the sample start position, Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse the sample, you can also determine the reversed sample start position with the Modwheel. A long IR is active in the convolution engine in the Insert FX section.

Chimes mute
4 short samples of Handchimes played with a strong attack and then muted by hand. Mapped over 1 octave each starting at C2. The original pitch of the samples is always mapped to F#. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse the samples. Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones.

Chimes pan shake
Two medium sized samples (0:24 / 0:27) mapped from C0-B4 / C3-C6 of shaking Handchimes slowly panning between the 3 Microphones. The Modwheel determines the sample start position, Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse the sample, you can also determine the reversed sample start position with the Modwheel. The reversed samples are looped. A medium sized IR is active in the convolution engine in the Insert FX section.

Chimes spinning
Two samples (0:45 / 0:33) mapped from C0-B4 / C3-C6 of shaking Handchimes quickly spinning between the 3 Microphones resulting some doppler effects. The Modwheel determines the sample start position, Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse the sample, you can also determine the reversed sample start position with the Modwheel. The reversed samples are looped. A long and bright IR is active in the convolution engine in the Insert FX section.

Mysterious Chime Cloud
2 long Soundscapes (1:45 / 1:19) made with Handchime samples processed by CrusherX and various FX Plug-Ins. Both samples are mapped over the entire keyboard range, the root note of both samples is C3. AET morphing is controllable with the Modwheel. Control the sample start position with Midi Controller CC#021. The Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones.

Shifting Chimeverbs
A long Soundscape (0:52) made from Handchimes processed with Aether Reverb run through Valhalla's Freq Echo and Soundtoys Crystallizer. The Modwheel determines the sample start position, Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse the sample, you can also determine the reversed sample start position with the Modwheel.

Slow panning Chimes MW smp start
A long looped sample (1:02) of Hanchimes played with accents in different densities slowly panning between the 3 Microphones mapped over the entire keyboard range. The Modwheel determines the sample start position, Pitchbend is set to +/- 12 semitones. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse the sample, you can also determine the reversed sample start position with the Modwheel. A long IR is active in the convolution engine in the Insert FX section.

Spectral Chime Pad
A long looped sample (1:30) made from processed Handchimes treated with the spectral filters of Metasynth 5. 2 Groups mapped from C0-C6 are available. A long IR is active in the convolution engine in the Insert FX section.
Group 1 triggered by keyswitch A0 plays the sample in Tone machine mode, the Modwheel determines the sample speed, the Pitchbender controls the formant shifting. The inverted Midi Controller CC#021 controls Lowpass Cutoff, turn it up to reduce high frequencies.
Group 2 triggered by keyswitch B0 plays the sample in normal DFD mode and the Modwheel determines the sample start position, Pitchbend is set to +/- 2 semitones for this Group, the inverted Midi Controller CC#021 controls Lowpass Cutoff, turn it up to reduce high frequencies.

The demo was produced using 10 instances of Kontakt inside Logic, no postprocessing was applied, what you hear is only the Outputs of Kontakt.

new upload: Alchemy Patch Sax Cloud

Sax Cloud - zip-file 38,6 MB
In Source A this patch uses another Soprano sax sample processed with Crusher-x (which currently makes me totally mad) and a another crusher-xed bell sample in Source B. Source C resynthesizes a Windchime sample I made for an upcoming Kontakt Library. Various Alchemy Filters process the sound, 7 Performance Controllers and 8 Snapshots in the Remix Pad are available. The sax sample in source A starts monophonic and then gets polyphonic/dissonant. The speed of all samples is controlled with the x-axis of x/y-pad 2, x/y-pad 1 morphs between the sources. Turning up Controller 7 will turn the Winchimes in source C into a tonal, vocoderlike metallic sound, the sample start point of the chimes is controlled via velocity.

new upload: Alchemy Patch Nervous Wonder

This patch resynthesizes an audio file I made by processing single percussive hits from my Kontakt patch Backstage drums with the fabulous Crusher-x Plug-In, which can create fantastic grainy textures. 8 Performance Controllers, the 2 x/y-pads and 8 Snapshots in the Remix Pad are available. This patch can be anything from a meditative and calm padlike sound to a totally crazy Sci-Fi overkill attack.

new upload: Kontakt Patch Backstage Percussion

Backstage Percussion - 10,6 MB unzipped - Kontakt 4 - 47 samples (48 Khz/24 Bit/stereo) compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - 1 Impulse Response Sample (wav) - Price: 4,50 €
This patch uses 47 samples which I isolated from a recording I made in the backstage area of a concert hall in Taipei in 2005 during the unpacking of Instrument cases before a concert. These mainly percussive snippets were then processed with Transient Designers, Filters, Compressors and an array of FX Plugs. Some snippets were left pure some have 1 or 2 variations with different degrees of FX processing. There is an Impulse response active in the Insert FX Convolution engine, a short gated reverb I made with Aether Reverb. Bypass the Convolution engine if you prefer external FX.
Mapping:
Only the white keys are mapped, lower sounds and fat kickdrumlike impacts are to be found from C0-A3, the higher ranged sounds start at C3-F6 with two longer FX sounds at G6 and A6.
Controls:
The samples play back in one shot mode by default, turning up the Modwheel will shorten the decay phase. There is pitch ranomization script available from the Factory Library that will randomize the pitches up to +/- 24 semitones. You can also tune the entire set up and down by 36 semitones in that script. The Pitchwheel is set to +/- 12 semitones. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse all samples.
The demo was produced with a single instance of Kontakt in Logic, no postprocessing was applied, what you hear is what you get.

new upload: Kontakt Patch Plucked Knifes

Plucked Knifes - 10,5 MB unzipped - Kontakt 4 - 29 samples (48 Khz/24 Bit/mono) compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - Price: 4,50 €
This patch is made of 29 samples I made by "plucking" different sized kitchen knifes on various surfaces like a wooden table, a stool and a plastic surface. For a better overview the different articulations are grouped only on the white keys starting on C0 reaching to F4 so some keys are not mapped.
Keyswitches:
2 variations are available:
Normal plucking triggered by keyswitch A0
Timestretched plucking triggered by keyswitch B0
Controls:
The Modwheel controls the decay phase. With the Modwheel down the samples always play in one shot mode, the entire sample is played. Turning up the wheel shortens the decay phase.
The pitchbender is set to +/- 12 semitones When timestretched plucking mode is selected Midi Control CC#21 controls the sample speed, so turning it up will slow down the sample and Midi Control CC#22 controls the grain size. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse all samples.
A short Stereo Delay in the Insert FX section adds some stereo space, bypass it if you prefer external Reverb and FX. This patch is great for Sound Design and music alike, I also used these samples with great success on some cartoon/animation film productions.
The demo was produced with 3 instances of this patch within Logic, what you hear are only the ouptputs of Kontakt, no post processing was applied.

new upload: Alchemy Patch Sax Multiphonics Church

This patch uses a processed recording of m playing Multiphonics on my Soprano Sax recorded in a huge church during a concert with my brother some years ago. The sample was resynthed, source A uses Additive and Spectral derivates of that sound, source B only the additive part which is pitched down an octave and a Lowpass is applied. In the Master Filter section a Bandpass and a Ringmodulator are processing the signal. The sample (well it's not a sample anymore actually) speed can be slowed down even more when moving the x-axis of x/y-pad 2 to the right. 8 Performance Controllers are available as well as 8 Snapshots in the Remix Pad.

new upload: Kontakt Patches Pot Percussion

Pot Percussion - 13 MB unzipped - Multisampled Steel Pot - Kontakt 4 - 49 samples (48 Khz/24 Bit/mono and stereo) compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - 1 Impulse Response Sample (wav) - Price: 4 €
So I multisampled this unbreakable cooking pot from my kitchen as it has such a nice sound reminding me of Gamelan Percussion. I used a wooden cooking spoon as the drumstick to keep it in the family, recording was done with a Neumann U87 run through RME FF 800 into Logic. There are up to 4 velocity layers and 10xRound Robin meaning that hitting the same key will trigger 10 different samples consecutively, until the first sample plays again. There are 7 different patches/nkis available:
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan - 1 velocity layer / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 2 vel lay - 2 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 3 vel lay - 3 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay - 4 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay AET - 4 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
This patches utilizes Kontakt 4's AET velocity morphin to smoothen the transitions between the layers - more CPU intensive - can cause some crackling depending on how many notes/how fast you play
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay TM - 4 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
In this patch all samples play back in Time Machine 2 mode yielding very nice results. Control the sample speed with the Pitchbender, turning it up shortens the samples, turning it down makes them longer sounding more like strange Bells.
Pot Percussion untuned All - All samples untuned - pitch follow is turned of so you have 2 octaves of 4-velocity-layered Pot samples from C2-B3 all playing the originally sampled pitches and you have 2 octaves of a multisampled "Clang" sounds ranging from C4-C6 produced by hitting the side of the Pot very hard. The Clang sound has 9xRound Robin. This patch uses a random pitch script from the Factory Libary so you can randomize the pitches up to +/- 2 octaves. The Pitchbender is set to +/- 12 semitones.
All patches have a random panning function controlled by the Modwheel. Modwheel down plays all samples in the middle, move the Modwheel up to distribute them randomly in the stereo field, wheel fully up yields extreme panning effects. In all Patches the Convolution engine holds a nice Impulse Rspone made with Aether Reverb.
The Demo was produced with 3 instances of Kontakt inside Logic using the patches Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay - Pot Percussion untuned All - Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay TM - no post processing applied so what you hear is just the Outsputs of the Kontakt instances.

Zebra rocks!

So I thought I dont need another Software Synth in my palette until I stumbled across u-he's Zebra two days ago. Downloaded the demo, watched some tutorials and started building patches right away. After so much mainly sample based programming in the last weeks this encounter is really inspiring. This synth is just so well designed, the sound varieties one can create even with only one Oscillator are stunning, not to speak of big patches with lot's of Intermodulation between several Oscillators and Filters going on. The Waveform morphing feature is exceptional, just draw your own waveforms and start modulating between the different waves. The Zebrafy Plug-In is also very useful for creating crazy Midi-controlled FX. So if I build +/- 2 patches a day from now own I should release my first Zebra Bank in a month or so. Stay tuned...

new upload: Alchemy Patch Metal Drops

zip-file 29,4 MB - 2 of my commercial Soundscapes resynthesized in Alchemy using additive and spectral mode simultaneously in each source module. As these samples are pretty long I didn't loop them so they will eventually stop playing. Control the Pitch variation of the sounds with the Modwheel (Performance Control 7), Sample start point with Control 1, Attack time with Control 2, Master Lowpass Cutoff with Control 3. x/y-pad 1 crossfades between the two sources and in x/y-pad 2 two you can totally twist this patch around by controlling the sample speed, the volume of the spectral components, the pitch of the harmonics and Reverb amount. 8 Snapsots are available, the Demo was procuced by morphing between the snaps and occasionally using the Modheel.

new upload: Kontakt Patch Piano Destruction - Spadehacks

New upload today is a patch for Kontakt 4:
Piano Destruction - Spadehacks - 23,9 MB unzipped - Kontakt 4 - 5 samples (48Khz/24Bit/stereo) spilt up into 93 segments - compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - 1 Impulse Response (wav) - Price: 4,50 €
This patch is made from recordings of destroying the inside of an upright piano with a metal spade, hitting the the strings and resonance body and smashing the hammers. I truncated each spadehack inside Kontakt and mapped the single segments over 7,5 octaves ranging from C0-G#8. The Modwheel controls the decay of the sounds, many samples also have zone envelopes controlling the fade out to eliminate clicks. There is a random pitch shifting script from the Factory Library ranging from 0-24 semitones so the higher the range the more pitch-randomness will occur. Additionally the Pitchbender is set to +/- 12 semitones. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse each sample/segment, the sustain function is deactivated. In the Convolution engine there is an IR made with Aether Reverb creating a nice space . The Demo was played using the Pitchbender, the Reverse function and the Random pitch script by tweaking a Controller knob inside Logic assigned to the pitch range of the script. The Demo displays the Kontakt Ouputs only, no additional post processing was applied. Happy hacking!

new upload: Alchemy Patch Voiceverb Pad

4 samples I made by shouting/singing into the resonance body of a broken piano capturing just the reverb/resonance of the piano, not the shouts themselves. Each source module carries one of theses voiceverbs in Granular mode, the playhead position/speed of the samples is controlled by a MSEG in forward/backward loop mode. Morph between the 4 sources with x/y-pad 1. The attack time is controlled via velocity, the harder you play the more percussive the attack becomes. A Formant Filter and a Lowpass are active in the Master section, control the Formant Cutoff with the Modwheel and the Lowpass Cutoff with x/y-pad 2. There is also a performance control knob named "freeze" which reduces the Random time modulation of the Granulator yielding a sort of freezing effect of the voiceverbs. A big Reverb space can be added with the assigned Performance Control. There are 8 snapshots available in the Remix Pad.

patchpool - what's next?

So in he past weeks I've been working like crazy to produce more content for patchpool. Lot's of Kontakt patches were published, some Alchemy patches as well and I also started publishing a selection of my Library sounds hosted on Libraries like Audiosparx/1soundfx/AudioMicro and Soundsnap as I eventually want to become independent and do my own thing instead of paying 50-60% shares of each sold soundfile to the owners of those Libraries. Sales are picking up and I'm confident that patchpool will become a great online resource for unusual and special Sounds, Presets and Patches for all sorts of virtual instruments and Plug-Ins but also for Film post production and Sound Design.

Currently there are more Kontakt patches in the making. One of them is another collection from my Piano Destruction Library - Spadehacks. For this patch I took all the soundfiles I recorded last year containing impacts of a metal spade destroying the interior of an upright piano. I truncated all the single spade hits inside Kontakt leaving the original files intact resulting in an instrument with 8 octaves full of superb percussive impact and string sounds. I also made a cool Impulse Response with Aether Reverb which adds a nice space to those samples. Here are 3 Loops made with the new Instrument I published today on Audiosparx:

Spadehack Loop 2
Spadehack Loop 3

Another patch in the making is Pot Percussion. I multisampled the biggest pot from my kitchen which has a nice gamelanish sound, hitting it with a wooden cooking spoon on the bottom, bottom edge and side in 5 velocity layers with up to 10X Round Robin per layer. This will actually a collection of several patches/nkis as layering the sounds differently in Kontakt offers so many varieties.

I will keep you informed what's coming next on patchpool. Stay tuned...
