Coming soon: Tabula Rasa for Serum

All wavetables in this set are created from scratch, either by resynthesizing acoustic instruments, hardware synthesizers and sounds derived from organic and inorganic materials like wood, stone, metal and glass or by creating wavetables and single cycle waveforms in Serum’s own editor. Approximately 30 - 40 samples will be produced especially for this set including cinematic soundscapes and drones, abstract and atonal textures and acoustic percussion sounds.

Complex modulation routings will enable the user to deeply interact with the sounds, often totally changing a patch at the turn of a Macro. Tabula Rasa contains a wide range of expressive sounds ranging from ambient drones and warm pads to dark and gloomy textures to cinematic impacts and sound effects to futuristic and new age-sequences to beautiful plucks and bell sounds to edgy leads and stabs.

All audio demos for Tabula Rasa are here, videos are in this youtube playlist, as I have only started, there are only a few tracks to listen to so far.

Ambient Strings for MachFive 3 released on patchpool

My second sound library for MachFive 3 Ambient Strings focusses on atmospheric sounds and textures derived from string instruments like cello, violin (electric and acoustic), electric and acoustic guitars, psaltery (ebowed, plucked and bowed) and oud. The patches combine textural sounds, multisampled acoustic instruments and more exotic instrument articulations with electronic textures all derived from the dry instrument samples to create wonderful, ethereal, dark and mysterious sound worlds. Expressive multisampled instruments, temposynced instrument sequences and morphable soloistic phrases are also included in this library.

16 patches patches/instruments have scripted interfaces for extended sound manipulation, a snapshot system especially developed for this library allows the user to save and recall 5 snapshots, or recall the 5 snapshots programmed into the patches by default. So on top of the 75 patches this library ships with another 64 snapshot variations.

All non-scripted patches have the Modwheel and the 8 Macros assigned in the info tab, quite a few also use Aftertouch. Many patches integrate the wealth of MachFive's sound generators and combine them with granular and normal sampling. In many patches temposynced modulators are used to animate the amplitudes and filters of the involved samples and sound generators, often keyswitchable sound combinations or different articulations are available within one patch.
All patches which have several different sounds split across the keyboard (often over a range of six octaves or more) use key-colouring in MachFive's keyboard which makes it easier to navigate through the various split sounds.

Scripting by Iain Morland.

Content:
  • 3.35 GB of original samples (wavs/stereo/48 Khz/24 Bit), 6 impulse responses, 4 single cycles - a small fraction of samples was borrowed from other patchpool libraries.
  • 75 patches (including 3 low CPU variations) plus 64 snapshot variations inside the scripted patches, combining all synthesis forms available in MachFive 3.

Sampled instruments:
  • Cello
  • Violin (acoustic and electric)
  • Acoustic Guitar (classical - nylon / western - steel)
  • Electric Guitar (amped and DI-box)
  • Psaltery

Instrument categories:
  • Acoustic Guitar (7)
  • Cello (20 + 2 low CPU variations)
  • Electric Guitar (7)
  • Electronic Scapes (7)
  • Hybrid Strings (10)
  • Psaltery (11)
  • Violin (10 + 1 low CPU variation)

All acoustic instrument-samples in this library are recorded in a dry studio environment with top notch Neumann microphones in L-C-R at 48 Khz/24 Bit. All microphone signals are phase-aligned which enhances the stereo field and the transparency of the recorded samples.

All demos were produced entirely with MachFive 3 using only patches from Ambient Strings, no post-processing was applied apart from a limiter on the outputs and some volume automation, if several instances of MachFive were used in a track.

There are plenty of videos demonstrating patches from this library in this youtube playlist.

Diversity 2 for Diversion released on patchpool

This soundset contains 103 patches including 3 variations for the unique Diversion Synth by Dmitry Sches. As with the update version 1.3 Diversion was enabled to play samples, both in normal sampling- and granular mode, this soundset contains 1.35 Gigabytes of samples, half of which were created especially for this soundset, the other half borrowed from other patchpool libraries.
Organic and electronic textures and soundscapes, vocal textures, field recordings and acoustic instruments like woodwinds, brass, cello, guitars and chromatic/achromatic percussion instruments meet digital oscillators, by intermodulating these sources via ring modulation and FM synthesis new sounds are born, which can be diverse to the extreme. Ethereal textures and angelic whispers meet dark and disconcerting drones, vivid sequences meet minimalistic rhythms, warm pads clash with cold metallic sounds, pristine glass textures are absorbed by surreal and futuristic soundscapes, expressive leads are counterpointed with noises from another sound dimension.
Besides the sample content dozens of new single-cycle waveforms were created in- and outside of Diversion to expand the sonic palette of this synth, complex modulation routings were used to create animated and expressive sounds usable for a wide variety of musical styles.
All patches have the x/y-pad assigned, many also use Aftertouch. This enables the Diversionist to interact with the sounds and shape them expressively.
All samples are embedded in the presets, so there is no need to install a seperate sample folder. As in some patches a sample is used twice (e.g. by layering sampling and granular modes), the installed library size (1.96 GB) is larger than the actual size of the sample content (1.35 GB). If you want to use the samples outside Diversion (please respect the licence agreement when doig so) or save them to your Diversion library, just save the wavs in the sample editor.
All sounds have the x/y-Mastermorph pad assigned for deep interaction with the sounds, many also use Aftertouch for even more expressive playabilty.
Specs:
  • 103 patches including 3 variations
  • 1.35 GB of samples, 126 wavs/48 Khz/24 Bit/stereo - 1.96 GB installed
  • requires a minimum 2 GB of free disk space on the system drive

Patch categories:

  • Bells & Plucks (5 + 2 variations)
  • Synths & Basses (4)
  • Leads (3)
  • Pads (9)
  • Soundscapes & Drones (36)
  • Sequencer / Arps (10 + 1 variation)

Aqualignum for Alchemy released on patchpool

The sound library Aqualignum combines waterphone samples from my MachFive library
Scattered Entity Vol. 1 with original oud samples, an arab string instrument especially multisampled for this library.

The mysterious and haunting tones of the waterphone meet the warm embracing string sounds of the orient. Tradition melds with futurism, water, wood and metal compose Aqualignum. This library contains 56 patches (including 1 variation) making use of 1.76 GB of samples, resynthesized sounds and electronic derivatives. Multisampled string instruments derived from the oud with up to 5 velocity layers and 3x round robin (variations per sample), calm and dark drones, beautiful and fragile waterphone pads, ominous and evocative soundscapes, futuristic textures and metallic percussion instruments are contained in this set.

The oud articulations include plectrum-picked strings (played with a special oud plectrum), finger-plucked vibrato tones, up and down slides, tremoli, bowed notes (violin bow), scraped strings and some phrases.

The waterphone was played with two differently sized bows creating all kinds of arpeggio textures with water-modulated decay-phases, scraping and moaning metal sounds, long sustained notes played with a violin bow for creating multisampled tonal pad sounds and the instrument was beaten with various beaters for metallic percussion sounds and bass tones.

As in all my soundsets for Alchemy I make extensive use of Alchemy's complex modulation possibilities and filters, often intermodulating LFOs/MSEGs/sequencers with each other and assigning numerous parameters to a single Performance Controller. This enables the user to deeply interact with the sounds and shape it according to his/her needs and preferences. The patches can also serve as a starting point for the user's own creations when loading new samples into them and then using the pre-assigned controllers and snapshots in the Remix Pad.

All samples in this library were recorded with 3 Neumann microphones in L-C-R in 48 Khz/24 Bit, a U87 as the center mic - a stereo set of KM 184 for L-R, the microphone signals of all oud samples were phase-aligned which improves the stereo picture, enhances the transparency of the sound and makes for snappier transients.

You can view/download the PDF for Aqualignum with more details, the licence agreement and the patch list including playing tips and deteiled descriptions for each patch here.

DNA for Molekular FX released on patchpool

Today I released my Snapshot Bank DNA for Native Instruments Reaktor Molekular FX:

DNA for NI's Molekular is a Snapshot Bank which requires the full version of Reaktor. It contains 98 presets with 4 variations each in the Morphing section, making use of the sophisticated modulation system inside this unique effect instrument. Some of these snapshots orbit more on the sonic outskirts of the musical universe, some are variations on a theme.

Beautiful ambient, ethereal, mysterious and haunting textures are waiting for you, stuttering and glitchy temposynced mayhem for spicing up loops and beats, moving Filterscapes and stereo animators to process pads and other horizontal textures as well as some experimental sounds that are beyond any categorization.

All presets have the 5 positions in the morphing section programmed, these can be used as a starting point for morphing between the complex effect modulations in each preset. Each preset also has more or less complex morphing modulations assigned.

All snapshots are programmed 100% wet for Molekular to be used on a send bus. If you insert Molekular directly on an instrument track, use the “Dry“-knob at the upper right of the GUI to blend in the unprocessed audio signal.

Patch categories:
  • Atmospheres – 42
  • Filterscapes – 9
  • Glitch&Stutter – 23
  • Pitch Generators – 15
  • Experimental Lab – 9

SoundPack Overtones released on patchpool

I just released a SoundPack (wavs/48 Khz/24 Bit/557.5 MB uncompressed) Overtones with samples from my Alchemy library MetaVox +1 new processed overtone soundscape.

The 76 samples are categorized in four folders:

Transitions (31 pure samples and 6 samples with isolated harmonics) - harmonic transitions in various speeds and rhythms at various root notes, also using isolated files where the root notes were totally removed so that only the harmonics remain. Sometimes these harmonics were then tuned to a tempered scale eliminating the natural pitch offset natural harmonics have.

Gliss and Trills (16 samples) - overtone trills and glissandi where the root note shifts in pitch and the harmonics sometimes even shift in the opposite direction.

Throat Singing (10 samples +1 spectralized derivative) - tuvinian style drones and transitions.

Processed (12 samples) - electronically processed derivatives, also using isolated files where the root notes were totally removed so that onlythe delicate harmonics remain.

Sonic Cinema for HALion 5 released on patchpool

I just released my first sound library for Steinberg's HALion 5.

This sound library comprises dozens of cinematic soundscapes, evocative pads and musical textures designed for producing epic soundtracks, ambient music and anything that needs inspiring sonic ingredients beyond the ordinary.

Sonic Cinema also contains dark cinematic brass instruments made with/derived from sampled instruments like the sousaphone, trombone, euphonium and french horn which were exclusively multisampled for this library, mainly in a dry studio environment. Some of the french horn recordings were conducted in a church.

Then there are sounds in this library made with/derived from a multisampled acoustic guitar played with an electric bow and you will find some beautiful and otherworldly chime and glass sounds. Scraped Tamtam sounds add another mysterious dimension to this sound collection. Some playful and complex sequencers as well as some metal impact sounds derived from field recordings complete the sonic picture.

The 92 patches combine HALions outstanding granular engine, the normal sampling mode and the very versatile synth module. Eight Macros and the Modwheel are programmed for each preset which enables the user to deeply interact with the sounds, many patches also use Aftertouch, Sphere-modulation and keyswitches. FlexPhrasers and Trigger Pads were used to create the arp and sequencer patches.

Sonic Cinema is distributed as a HALion vstsound-archive for the sample content and tagged vst-presets.

Specifications:

  • 92 instruments / presets.
  • 3.18 Gigabyte of samples (48 khz/ 24 Bit / stereo).
  • All acoustic instrument-samples in this library were recorded with 3 Neumann microphones in L-C-R at 48 Khz/24 Bit, a U87 as the center mic and a stereo set of KM 184 for L-R.
  • Delivery: download - RAR-archive in 4 parts for better download handling.
