new upload: Alchemy patch Warm Vibratopad

This is a revamped patch I posted about a year ago in the KVR Library. A resynthed vocal sample from one of my theatre projects processed in Alchemy. 8 Snapshots are available and 6 Performance Controllers are assigned as well as both x/y-pads. This patch can be anything from a very warm pad sound to an experimental Soundscape with unpredictable bursts of noise. Enjoy!

Today I'm happy to announce the release of my first Sound Bank for Zebra and Zebrify on patchpool. The past weeks have been a very intense encounter with this magnificent piece of Software and I know this was only the beginning. I'm already thinking abut a second Bank, maybe entitled "Second Thoughts" and then "3rd kind" and so on.
Let's see...

new upload: Kontakt Patches Pot Percussion

Pot Percussion - 13 MB unzipped - Multisampled Steel Pot - Kontakt 4 - 49 samples (48 Khz/24 Bit/mono and stereo) compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - 1 Impulse Response Sample (wav) - Price: 4 €
So I multisampled this unbreakable cooking pot from my kitchen as it has such a nice sound reminding me of Gamelan Percussion. I used a wooden cooking spoon as the drumstick to keep it in the family, recording was done with a Neumann U87 run through RME FF 800 into Logic. There are up to 4 velocity layers and 10xRound Robin meaning that hitting the same key will trigger 10 different samples consecutively, until the first sample plays again. There are 7 different patches/nkis available:
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan - 1 velocity layer / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 2 vel lay - 2 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 3 vel lay - 3 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay - 4 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay AET - 4 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
This patches utilizes Kontakt 4's AET velocity morphin to smoothen the transitions between the layers - more CPU intensive - can cause some crackling depending on how many notes/how fast you play
Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay TM - 4 velocity layers / 10xRound Robin - Range: C2-C5
In this patch all samples play back in Time Machine 2 mode yielding very nice results. Control the sample speed with the Pitchbender, turning it up shortens the samples, turning it down makes them longer sounding more like strange Bells.
Pot Percussion untuned All - All samples untuned - pitch follow is turned of so you have 2 octaves of 4-velocity-layered Pot samples from C2-B3 all playing the originally sampled pitches and you have 2 octaves of a multisampled "Clang" sounds ranging from C4-C6 produced by hitting the side of the Pot very hard. The Clang sound has 9xRound Robin. This patch uses a random pitch script from the Factory Libary so you can randomize the pitches up to +/- 2 octaves. The Pitchbender is set to +/- 12 semitones.
All patches have a random panning function controlled by the Modwheel. Modwheel down plays all samples in the middle, move the Modwheel up to distribute them randomly in the stereo field, wheel fully up yields extreme panning effects. In all Patches the Convolution engine holds a nice Impulse Rspone made with Aether Reverb.
The Demo was produced with 3 instances of Kontakt inside Logic using the patches Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay - Pot Percussion untuned All - Pot Percussion tuned Gamelan 4 vel lay TM - no post processing applied so what you hear is just the Outsputs of the Kontakt instances.

Zebra rocks!

So I thought I dont need another Software Synth in my palette until I stumbled across u-he's Zebra two days ago. Downloaded the demo, watched some tutorials and started building patches right away. After so much mainly sample based programming in the last weeks this encounter is really inspiring. This synth is just so well designed, the sound varieties one can create even with only one Oscillator are stunning, not to speak of big patches with lot's of Intermodulation between several Oscillators and Filters going on. The Waveform morphing feature is exceptional, just draw your own waveforms and start modulating between the different waves. The Zebrafy Plug-In is also very useful for creating crazy Midi-controlled FX. So if I build +/- 2 patches a day from now own I should release my first Zebra Bank in a month or so. Stay tuned...

new upload: Alchemy Patch Metal Drops

zip-file 29,4 MB - 2 of my commercial Soundscapes resynthesized in Alchemy using additive and spectral mode simultaneously in each source module. As these samples are pretty long I didn't loop them so they will eventually stop playing. Control the Pitch variation of the sounds with the Modwheel (Performance Control 7), Sample start point with Control 1, Attack time with Control 2, Master Lowpass Cutoff with Control 3. x/y-pad 1 crossfades between the two sources and in x/y-pad 2 two you can totally twist this patch around by controlling the sample speed, the volume of the spectral components, the pitch of the harmonics and Reverb amount. 8 Snapsots are available, the Demo was procuced by morphing between the snaps and occasionally using the Modheel.

new upload: Kontakt Patch Piano Destruction - Spadehacks

New upload today is a patch for Kontakt 4:
Piano Destruction - Spadehacks - 23,9 MB unzipped - Kontakt 4 - 5 samples (48Khz/24Bit/stereo) spilt up into 93 segments - compressed using Kontakt 4's .ncw format - 1 Impulse Response (wav) - Price: 4,50 €
This patch is made from recordings of destroying the inside of an upright piano with a metal spade, hitting the the strings and resonance body and smashing the hammers. I truncated each spadehack inside Kontakt and mapped the single segments over 7,5 octaves ranging from C0-G#8. The Modwheel controls the decay of the sounds, many samples also have zone envelopes controlling the fade out to eliminate clicks. There is a random pitch shifting script from the Factory Library ranging from 0-24 semitones so the higher the range the more pitch-randomness will occur. Additionally the Pitchbender is set to +/- 12 semitones. Pressing the sustain pedal will reverse each sample/segment, the sustain function is deactivated. In the Convolution engine there is an IR made with Aether Reverb creating a nice space . The Demo was played using the Pitchbender, the Reverse function and the Random pitch script by tweaking a Controller knob inside Logic assigned to the pitch range of the script. The Demo displays the Kontakt Ouputs only, no additional post processing was applied. Happy hacking!

new upload: Alchemy Patch Voiceverb Pad

4 samples I made by shouting/singing into the resonance body of a broken piano capturing just the reverb/resonance of the piano, not the shouts themselves. Each source module carries one of theses voiceverbs in Granular mode, the playhead position/speed of the samples is controlled by a MSEG in forward/backward loop mode. Morph between the 4 sources with x/y-pad 1. The attack time is controlled via velocity, the harder you play the more percussive the attack becomes. A Formant Filter and a Lowpass are active in the Master section, control the Formant Cutoff with the Modwheel and the Lowpass Cutoff with x/y-pad 2. There is also a performance control knob named "freeze" which reduces the Random time modulation of the Granulator yielding a sort of freezing effect of the voiceverbs. A big Reverb space can be added with the assigned Performance Control. There are 8 snapshots available in the Remix Pad.

patchpool - what's next?

So in he past weeks I've been working like crazy to produce more content for patchpool. Lot's of Kontakt patches were published, some Alchemy patches as well and I also started publishing a selection of my Library sounds hosted on Libraries like Audiosparx/1soundfx/AudioMicro and Soundsnap as I eventually want to become independent and do my own thing instead of paying 50-60% shares of each sold soundfile to the owners of those Libraries. Sales are picking up and I'm confident that patchpool will become a great online resource for unusual and special Sounds, Presets and Patches for all sorts of virtual instruments and Plug-Ins but also for Film post production and Sound Design.

Currently there are more Kontakt patches in the making. One of them is another collection from my Piano Destruction Library - Spadehacks. For this patch I took all the soundfiles I recorded last year containing impacts of a metal spade destroying the interior of an upright piano. I truncated all the single spade hits inside Kontakt leaving the original files intact resulting in an instrument with 8 octaves full of superb percussive impact and string sounds. I also made a cool Impulse Response with Aether Reverb which adds a nice space to those samples. Here are 3 Loops made with the new Instrument I published today on Audiosparx:
Spadehack Loop 1
Spadehack Loop 2
Spadehack Loop 3

Another patch in the making is Pot Percussion. I multisampled the biggest pot from my kitchen which has a nice gamelanish sound, hitting it with a wooden cooking spoon on the bottom, bottom edge and side in 5 velocity layers with up to 10X Round Robin per layer. This will actually a collection of several patches/nkis as layering the sounds differently in Kontakt offers so many varieties.

I will keep you informed what's coming next on patchpool. Stay tuned...
